A Speedy Farewell Jan 22 / 2010

We decided this morning to leave Manila, and head for Palawan. There didn't seem to be much got us in Manila its big and polluted. We woke up the morning of Jan 21 / 2010 and went to the huge mall called Robinson's Place. We had decided to go find a phone after the frustrating experience the night we landed and couldn't find somewhere to stay. After wandering around for about an hour in the massive mall, talking  to a bunch of people to try and get an idea of what a phone should cost, I decided on a cheap one for 1500 pesos which is around 33 cdn, including a sim card that would work all over Asia.
Right now I'm sitting in the court yard at the Moana Hotel http://www.moanahotelpalawan.com/, there are a few other Canadians sitting at the bar, Lisa is having a dip in the pool, and I have an ice cold San Miguel. The weather hasn't been amazing since we landed in Puerto Princesa, its not raining but there hasn't been any sun, it is however very hot and very humid!!

When we left Manila to go to the airport the cab tried to tell us that it was flat rate to go to the airport, of course we knew this was BULLSHIT! so after an argument and me taking me trusty new phone out to threaten to call the police he turned his meter on and didn't speak to us the rest of the way, there was tension the whole way to the airport. I kept thinking that he was going to take us to some slum to get back at us, but he got us to the airport, unfortunately for us he got us in the end by dropping us off at the wrong terminal, turned out not to be a big deal as the other terminal is only 5 min away.

We headed straight to the tourist office after getting to the airport in Palawan. The girl seemed very helpful but after calling all of the places in our guide book and not finding anywhere with a room, we decided to go to a cheap place we found in a book at the tourist center.
as soon as we left the office we were bombarded with trike drivers. a Trike is like a motorcycle with a hitch and a cart in the back, it seems so unsafe and more then likely is but when in Rome.
the driver we choose was really friendly although after the other two experiences we had with taxi drivers we were cautious. we told the man where we wanted to go and he started telling us it wasn't very nice but would take us somewhere else. we insisted we go there anyways. as soon as we arrived and I took a look at the room I realized this was the kind of place you stay for maybe an hour, if you catch my drift, mr trike driver offered to take us to the place in the guide book and when we arrived even though they had told us on the phone they were booked they managed to find us somewhere to stay.
The room has no Air Con, just a fan I also am without hot water, which I actually don't mind much its to hot out for hot showers anyways, but the room is clean which is the most important thing.
I love this place so far. Tonight were going to splurge for a 5 course seafood dinner which comes highly recommended.
were leaving for a small beach village called Sabong tomorrow!
